Community support is vital for Whidbey Island Orchestra. Although our adult musicians pay dues, these provide less than half of our operating expenses. We depend on the voluntary donations we receive for our primary community support.

Cynthia continues to reside at Maple Ridge, an Assisted-Living facility in Freeland. She receives various types of therapy to enhance her recovery. Although she is wheelchair-bound, she is able to move about her apartment. Her husband Gary and other visitors take her outside for tours of the neighborhood. She has also been able to get out and about to concerts and restaurants.
Cynthia has no use of her right arm and leg. She is becoming quite dexterous with her left hand, and uses her left leg to maneuver the wheelchair. Her neck and face are not affected by the weakness, so she is able to feed herself without difficulty, and she continues to be quite expressive with her face.
Her major challenge continues to be language. She understands nearly everything that is said to her, and is a voracious reader of news, fiction, and nonfiction alike. It is very difficult for her to express her ideas in the form of words. She speaks in single words or short phrases, which sometimes express a meaning different than what she intends.
Cynthia spends much of her time reading and watching news programs, dramas, and documentaries. She is still her charismatic self. She continues to be, as she always has been, highly engaged in her many interests. She remains emotionally upbeat and optimistic.
She is receiving limited visitors at this point. Because of her multiple medical and therapy treatments, her schedule requires careful management. Her good friend Allan Ament is co-ordinating visits.
